Weird: Man spends $50,000 on surgery to transform into an alien
The 22-year-old makeup artist Vinny Ohh from California has a very unusual goal in life — he wants to become an androgynous alien! And to achieve this goal he has already undergone 110 operations.
When Vinny was 17, he decided he didn't want to be a man... or a woman. First, he had injections to enlarge his lips. Then he had two operations on his nose and several cheek and eyebrow lifts. To get the real "alien effect," Vinny even wears huge, black contact lenses.
The operations became more frequent and expensive as Vinny slowly began to embody his otherworldly vision of himself. And now he's ready for the ultimate final step: the removal of his genitals! To become completely androgynous, Vinny wants to have his nipples, belly button and penis removed, but still hasn't found a surgeon who is willing to perform the necessary operations.
But what could bring a person to spend so much money on such a bizarre transformation? Vinny claims that he simply wants to feel comfortable in his own body: "I want to be a sexless alien being, I want my outside to reflect how I feel on the inside. The overall image I want to do is an alien. I want to be a hybrid, not male or female."
As far as Vinny is concerned, the operations have already been a success. "I do kind of look like a Martian, I have a really big head, no eyebrows and I've just been connecting with that. When people ask me how I'd label myself, I tell them an 'extra-terrestrial, hot mess, self-obsessed' it's becoming my slogan," he explained.
For Vinny, the only thing left to do is have his genitalia removed. He wants his transformation into an alien to be a statement — in his opinion people shouldn't be labeled: "I do it to inspire the world in a certain way, I want people to stop labeling others or putting them in boxes."
The former LGBT activist now feels no need for his genitals. "Over the years, I've realized I'm not gay, bi, trans or any of these things, I just want to be me."
Not a day goes by that Vinny doesn't get some very curious stares from people when he leaves the house. This has as much to do with his flamboyant makeup and clothes as it does with the cosmetic surgery. "Also, my makeup is focused around looking sexless, I play with color a lot, there's no shade I wouldn't experiment with," says Vinny.
And people's reactions vary greatly: "Some people absolutely love me, see me as a celebration and give a lot of compliments. I don't look real and people love it. Some people have said they want their kids to be like me and that I'm an inspiration for children who don't feel like they belong. Other times I've had shopping carts chucked at me or I've been considered a sexual object by men and women, I'm used to not fitting in," he explained.
Vinny's choice may be difficult for many of us to understand, but it should still be respected. Some people simply feel different on the inside and want to express that with their outer appearance. Vinny hopes that his transformation will help others to accept the fact that some people don't fit neatly into a category: "I'm trying to wake people up to show them that gender roles in society do not matter and show them that we need to be better human beings and nicer to one another."
But will Vinny ever find a surgeon who will help him take that final step to full and complete androgyny? We'll just have to wait and see...
