Woman uses two photos to reveal how our perception of beauty works

Beauty is in the eye of the beholder, as we all know.

But now a young woman named Milly Smith has used her Instagram account to show that how people perceive us is a simple question of circumstances. She took two pictures of herself on the same day, wearing the same clothes: a bra and dark pantyhose.

In the first picture the stockings are pulled up high and she seems to have a classic hourglass figure, the much-admired curvy ideal.

In the second picture, she's pulled the pantyhose down a little. Suddenly you see her belly in a way that could be reckoned by the more judgmental among us to be disadvantageous...

"I'm comfortable with my body in both. Neither is more or less worthy. Neither makes me more or less of a human being. Neither invites degrading comments and neither invites sleezy words. We are so blinded to what a real unposed body looks like and blinded to what beauty is that people would find me less attractive within a five second pose switch! How insanely ridiculous is that!?" wrote Milly about her pictures.

How right she is! And her audience on Instagram has agreed: more than 75,000 people have liked the post. Brave woman. Stay the way you are, Milly!
