Baby twins' tender hug has a tragic ending
Brandy Guettler and Tommy Buchmeyer of Fort Pierce, Florida have experienced elation and despair in the shortest possible timeframe. On August 18, they became parents to two gorgeous sons. The twins had barely made their appearance in the world but were already of one heart and soul. Only 11 days after their birth, the proud parents took this breathtaking photo of Hawk and Mason's delicate embrace.
"It's the first time they have ever touched and as soon as Mason felt Hawk he reached out for his arm and smiled this big," mother Brandy wrote of this unforgettable sight. But the brotherly togetherness was overshadowed by a tragic diagnosis: shortly after his birth, doctors discovered that Hawk suffered from congenital diaphragmatic hernia—an incomplete formation of the diaphragm that causes organs from the abdomen to penetrate the chest cavity. Friends and family feared for the baby's life, and there was also an outpouring of response from thousands of strangers who has seen the charming photo of the twins hugging that Brandy posted on the internet.
Brandy and Tommy were grateful for the immense moral support they received, but sadly had to share a tragic message on Facebook: Hawk passed away on September 7. He has left not only his bereaving parents and twin brother, but also a heartbroken internet community. Words of sympathy have been flooding into the parents' Facebook page for the twins.
Even though Hawk and Mason won't get the chance to grow up together, Brandy and Tommy are grateful for this brief moment of tenderness that they enjoyed.
