Young girl builds home for man in need
Hailey Fort from Washington is anything but a normal kid. When she was nine years old, she spent her days and evenings building a house. While most kids might have been busy building treehouses, Hailey was building a mobile shelter for her homeless friend Edward.
Edward met Hailey when she was five years old. When she first saw the homeless man on the street, she begged her mother to buy him a sandwich. In order to help more, Hailey started a vegetable garden at home and donated her harvest to people in need. Because Edward had no roof over his head, the young girl decided to build him a house: an 8-x-4-foot mini house equipped with a door, window, and insulation.
“It just doesn't seem right that there are homeless people,” Hailey said. "I think everyone should have a place to live.” And that is the reason this little girl, in her free time, drilled, sawed, and hammered away. Hailey wants to build even more shelters for people in need.
"I really don’t want them to get so wet with all the bad weather we have here,” explained Hailey, who believes that every person deserves a place to call home.
No person is too young to change the world. With a heart this big, there are no limits to what Hailey can do!
