Twenty-four-year-old Andrea Grant of Jacksonville, Florida is a strong young woman who lives her life to the fullest. And that's because this resilient woman survived something in her childhood that was absolutely horrifying.
In 2001, when Andrea was eight years old, she and her brother, two years older, had just come home from school. They were only to be alone for a few minutes because their older sister was also on her way home. But then something terrible happened: there was a gas explosion and the house was engulfed in flames. Neighbors quickly called the fire department and Andrea and her brother were rescued, but both were badly burned.
Because of the severity of their injuries, the children were flown to a hospital in Texas so that they could be cared for by a team of experts. The siblings suffered unimaginable pain. Eighty percent of Andrea's skin was covered in third degree burns.
It was almost a miracle that both children had survived the inferno, but it took a long time until their bodies healed following a long period of rehabilitation and convalescence. Slowly, Andrea fought her way back to regain the life she had had.
He scars would accompany her for the rest of her life, and she made the brave decision that she would never try and hide them.
Doctors had told Andrea that in the event she became pregnant, her baby would likely not survive past four weeks. Her body was simply too damaged.
As it turned out, that wasn't true: Andrea is 37 weeks pregnant. Her baby seems to be thriving and she can hardly wait to be a mother. She proudly shows her belly to the world!
It appears her baby has inherited Andrea's fighting spirit that has protected her in so many ways. She is undoubtably going to be a wonderful mother. Congratulations, Andrea!
