She becomes her sister’s surrogate after nine miscarriages
All 33-year-old Melissa Kayser ever wanted was to become a mom. She had almost given up all hope when her older sister offered her something most unexpected.
Together with her partner, Melissa had been trying to have a baby for three years. She underwent fertility treatments and IVF but after nine miscarriages, the doctors advised her to seek a surrogate.
"I was devastated because you think as women we are literally born to do one thing and that’s to reproduce and when you can’t do that one thing you feel like a failure,” recalled Melissa. "I didn’t know if I could emotionally handle another woman being able to carry my child," she continued.
Melissa has a sister, Lisa Auten, who is three years older than her.
Lisa didn't want to have kids of her own. But seeing her sister in such a state of despair broke her heart. "I couldn't stand watching Melissa go through loss after loss. She hurt so badly and she just wanted a child so bad. If I could help give her a family, then I was going to do it," said Lisa.
And sure enough, a couple of weeks later, the doctors couldn’t be more certain: Lisa was carrying twin girls!
"My sister had a really good pregnancy and very little complications. I got to be at all the ultrasounds and got to feel the babies kick. We did a gender reveal and we tried to make things fun and memorable," commented Melissa.
The beautiful twin girls also seem to have a certain closeness...
Although Lisa loved being pregnant, she still doesn’t want any kids of her own.
"I never saw myself being a mom. I enjoyed being pregnant, but the experience has not changed my mind," said Lisa. "I am just fine being an aunt," she concluded.
The connection between Melissa and Lisa is stronger than ever.
"Every day I am in awe. You hear women say you don’t really know love until you have children. They really do complete me. There’s never any words that I can say to thank her for what she did. She gave up a year of her life so that we could have a family. I could never repay," said Melissa.

Now that’s sisterly love! The gift Lisa gave Melissa by carrying her children is simply overwhelming. It’s even more admirable given the fact that Lisa herself doesn’t want any children. It was the perfect solution to the conception problems Melissa and her husband were experiencing. Here’s to the two sisters for such a magnificent display of family solidarity! And to top it off, the new generation of sisters — the twins — are just adorable.
