Boy leaves message on teddy bear and gets a surprise
Debbie Ashworth recently took her 10-year-old son Leon with her to do the grocery shopping for her family. While roaming the aisles, Leon came across a panda teddy bear and it was love at first sight. "Leon spotted this panda – he just seemed drawn to it and said 'mummy can I please have this panda?'" recalled his mother. But Debbie, who works as a nurse, told him that it would have to wait until her next payday. Leon was sad, but then he had an idea. He took a pen he had in his pocket and wrote this note on the box that was holding the stuffed animal he so longed for...
"My mum didn’t have enough money to buy me Pandy so she’s buying me Pandy on 15th June so please don’t buy him as it will make me cry. Thank you so much from Hopeful Future Owner."
When store manager David Bateman found the box with the scribbled note, his heart melted. He made it his mission to ensure that the cuddly panda ended up with his "hopeful future owner" and posted a photo on Facebook to try to find him. A local newspaper also joined in the search effort and soon Debbie noticed the picture of "Pandy" online. She quickly recognized it as the stuffed toy she wasn't able to buy a few days earlier.
The store employees chipped in and bought the little panda for Leon. "The moment I handed the panda over was brilliant — to see Leon’s face was just wonderful. It’s the best moment I’ve had working here," commented one employee.
"As he was walking out he said to me 'This is the best day of my life.' It meant the world to him..." remembers Debbie. She was extremely grateful to the generous employees who brought so much joy into her son's life with their kind gesture. And now that Leon and Pandy have been brought together, we're pretty sure that nothing will ever come between them!
