A touching story about a rescued kitten with a sweet name
On June 23, 2016 in Cheongju, South Korea, passers-by came across a tiny bundle of misery in a dark alley at night. It was a small, white kitten.
It was dehydrated, malnourished and completely frozen. The kitten was quickly taken to an animal shelter, but there was not much that could be done for it — it would have to be put down. But as luck would have it, a young woman was surfing the net and stumbled upon the animal shelter site where she saw a picture of the small cat and almost instantaneously fell in love with it.
When she inquired at the animal shelter, however, she was given some disheartening advice. She was told not to adopt the kitten, because the necessary treatment to get it back to good health would be far too expensive and not worth her while. The poor little creature had a respiratory tract infection as well as other major health issues. However, the young woman wasn't going to be dissuaded; she wanted to adopt the kitten precisely because it was in such bad shape, weighing a mere 3 lbs, and having obviously endured a great deal of pain.
She was absolutely determined and after consulting a trusted veterinarian, who assured her that the treatment was actually quite straightforward and not that costly, she went straight to the shelter. She collected her newly adopted kitten, brought it home with her and named it "Jon Snow" — after the popular "Game of Thrones" character.
Jon Snow received the veterinary care he so desperately needed. For five whole days, he was given the necessary medical attention, from fur care and grooming to artificial nourishment. There was one more dramatic incident that occurred, which was when the kitten vomited up blood. But the capable team of specialists did their utmost to stabilize his condition. And gradually, the treatment took effect; Jon Snow was starting to make a recovery — slowly but surely.
He must have had some kind of guardian angel watching over him because by the fourth day, he was even strong enough to explore his room and play with his "adoptive mother." The vets and carers were so impressed with the progress he was making.
And on the sixth day, he was finally allowed to go home. His rescuer could hardly wait to show him his new home. Jon Snow is such a playful little guy!
It's hard to believe that he was that close to being put down, when you consider what an incredible trooper he is and in the end only needed a bit of professional care.
He has become quite the domestic cat!
The young woman really saw something special in him and was right to believe in him. It just goes to show what a little bit of tender loving care can accomplish. Now Jon Snow can enjoy his new life — with lots of stroking, good food and a loving owner.
