Two stray dogs were best friends — finally they got adopted together!
This story goes straight to the heart: two dogs fighting their way through life on the streets, together. The one takes care of the other and vice versa. But then they wind up in the care of humans and their ability to survive without each other is put to the test.
Meet the sweet pink-nosed pit bull called Joanie:
And the mischievous, sparky Chihuahua mix Chachi:
These two were best friends, connected by their common fate.
They lived together for years on the streets of Atlanta. People noticed them, of course — particularly their loyalty to each other.
Joanie, who was much bigger and stronger, would sometimes carry Chachi in her jaws for miles through the city. And sometimes she would stop to lick Chachi's blind, inflamed eye.
Finally, animal rescue volunteers found them and brought them to the nearest animal hospital. Vets operated on Chachi, removing the eye, which unfortunately couldn't be healed. She recovered quickly though.
But hospital employees made one huge mistake: they housed the two animals in separate parts of the building so they no longer saw one another.
The two were miserable. Chachi stopped recovering as well. Joanie became depressed and unmotivated. She even stopped eating.
Then they realized what had gone wrong and figured out a way to reunite the two friends. Their joy at being back together couldn't be contained.
And at last they found a family who wanted to adopt them — both of them! Dogs like this only come in twos.
There's almost nothing more pure and touching as the joy of animals like these two.
Thank goodness for the kind hearts of the rescuers, allowing these two best buds to stay together.
Their story obviously moved the family who adopted them but it's a little something uplifting for the rest of us too. After all, creatures like these give us so much, the least we can do is appreciate their bonds and give them back a little!
