Scalped dog found in abandoned house and rescued

Cubby, a stray dog in India, had been cowering in a dark corner of abandoned house for days. People could see that the animal was badly hurt, but no one knew what to do. Finally, someone called the animals rights group Animal Aid Unlimited and they were soon on their way to rescue the poor creature.

When rescuers entered the house, they expected to find an injured dog, but they definitely weren't prepared for what they found. The gaping wound on the animal's head was like nothing they'd ever seen before. Somehow the dog's skull had been torn open and its brain was completely exposed!

As if the sight wasn't enough, the stench of rot was so overpowering that some of the rescue team actually started gagging. They could hardly believe that an animal in that condition could still be alive.

As they got closer they could see the extent of the injury. The animal was in very bad shape — the wound was filthy and badly infected. But the rescuers didn't give up hope. They took Cubby with them, determined to nurse him back to health.

At first, Cubby didn't want to move. Maybe he didn't trust the humans who were trying to help him, or maybe he was just too ashamed of his condition. Yet after some petting and a bit of coaxing, the rescuers finally convinced Cubby to come with them.

Granting the dog some dignity, the team wrapped him in a blanket so he wasn't on display while they carried him to the truck.

Once they had Cubby back at the animal shelter, the first priority was to clean and dress his wound. The process was definitely not a sight for the faint of heart, but watching the activists clean out the dirt and disinfect the wound is actually quite impressive.

Finally, the wound is clean and can be bandaged.

The activists estimate that Cubby would have died a horribly painful death within a few hours if help had not arrived when it did. The healing process took eight weeks, but everyone could see that Cubby was making great progress every day.

And then came the big day — Cubby's bandages were removed and everyone was thrilled to see that the wound had healed beautifully.
