His final wish was to see his daughter get married
Candice Hammond from Georgia was in the middle of planning her wedding when she received horrible news: Her dad, Steve, who had been struggling with his health for a long time, was moved to the intensive care unit. Doctors were unsure how long he had left.
The family took the news hard. It had long been a wish of Steve's to walk his daughter down the aisle.
So, Candice and her soon-to-be husband made a decision: Even though the wedding wasn't scheduled until October 1st, they were going to get married sooner. To fulfill Steve's last wish, they would get married in the hospital. Candice received her father's blessings from his hospital bed and then the ceremony began.
Candice's mother said, "It was so wonderful. Everyone was so helpful to make this wish come true." Steve was watching as his beautiful daughter stood in her wedding dress before the love of her life. When the officiant asked who was giving Candice away, Steve raised his hand. He knew she was in good hands with Thomas.
When the "I dos" were said, the tears were hard to hold back. A powerful mix of joy and sadness filled the room. Everyone understood the gravity of the situation.
All those who were present were deeply moved. The photographer said, "Every girl dreams of walking down the aisle with her dad and Steve got to do that despite this difficult situation. I've never felt so much love in one room." What an amazing thing that this family was able to put together. Steve got to experience his daughter's wedding and share in her joy during his final days.
