Video: Berlin pays tribute to victims of Christmas market attack
Only a few days ago a tragedy shook Germany and sent shockwaves of grief and sympathy throughout the world: a tractor trailer was driven into a crowded Christmas market leaving 12 people dead and dozens more badly injured.
The city is mourning and the whole world mourns with them. But despite the fear, anger, and confusion that most Berliners are feeling, some of them decided to do something beautiful and life-affirming. A large group gathered at the location of the attack — Breitscheid Platz — and instead of venting anger, they broke into song.
The group included members of the "Everybody Can Sing" choir from the Berlin Memorial Church, the "Begegnungschor" (a choir whose members are almost all refugees) and several passersby who had come to pay their respects to the victims of the attack. Among other songs, they performed an amazing rendition of "We Are The World" to express the need for unity in these trying times.
Their message: hatred has no place in our city!

The location where 12 innocent people lost their lives only two days earlier was transformed into a monument to peace and hope. Our thoughts go out to all of the victims and their families as they come to terms with this tragedy.
For right now, we are all Berliners!
